M&T editor wins VDE Prize

February 19th, 2010 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Awards

Corinne Schindlbeck, the Markt&Technik who covers management & careers, has been awarded the Media Prize Technology by the VDE Südbayern, Germany. It’s great to see electronics industry bodies award prizes to journalists, and as an engineer I am particularly pleased that the prize went to someone who is encouraging young people to choose engineering as a career. Congratulations Corinne!

Elektroniktidningen goes green with new cleantech website

January 25th, 2010 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Online Publications

Clean/green technology is one of the hottest industries at present, giving publishers a great opportunity to launch new titles. Last year we saw Weka launch Energie & Technik as a sister title to Markt & Technik, and to start the year we have a new publication from Elektroniktidningen. ctsweden.se is a web-based publication that claims to be the first independent, technology focused news site about cleantech in Sweden. With the same website infrastructure, editorial team and advertising salespeople, the site should be an extremely cost-effective extension to Elektroniktidningen’s portfolio. It’s great to be able to write about new launches at the start of 2010, and I look forward to other publishers announcing new launches in the near future.

Weka confirms future for Energie&Technik

October 23rd, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Print Publications

Claiming the first issue was a “tremendous success”, Weka has announced that  Energie&Technik will continue publication in 2010. Issues are scheduled for March 10th, May 31st, July 16th and October 1st. At times like these, which present huge challenges for publishers, it’s great to see Weka launching new titles and being rewarded for their confidence.

Weka Sommernachtsfest 2009

August 5th, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Online Publications, Print Publications

With over 500 guests, the Weka Sommernachtsfest 2009 proved to be a fantastic event held at the historic MVG Museum. Proving that Germans really do have a great sense of humour, WEKA’s Managing Director Kurt Skupin told guests “We can’t afford it, and if you really want to know, we never could afford it”. Weka have a gallery of photos and also a video of the event on the Elektroniknet.de website.

Weka launches Energie&Technik

July 21st, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Print Publications

Weka’s Markt & Technik team is launching a new publication, Energie&Technik. Interestingly Weka has chosen to position the publication as “powered by Markt&Technik”, rather than branding the magazine as M&T special issues. The editorial focus will be on energy sources – such as solar heat, photovoltaics, wind power – and new battery technologies as well as fuel cells and energy harvesting.

Results of 1st Elektronik automotive congress

May 28th, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Shows, Conferences and Events

The first Elektronik automotive congress was held in Munich on 19th May. The organisers, Weka, report that the event attracted 16 exhibitors/sponsors as well as 130 attendees and speakers. It’s great to see new events for the European electronics industry, and although the attendance was relatively low, I’m a strong believer that small, focused events like this one often provide the best return-on-investment for electronics companies trade show budgets.

D&E to publish case study special issue

May 28th, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Print Publications

Here’s a really good idea from “DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK”. The magazine will publish a case study special in September 2009, providing design engineers with a range of reference applications and success stories. Although – having worked for both a component manufacturer and distributor – I know the difficulty of getting case studies written and approved by customers, I know how valuable they are in the promotion of both products and support services. I really hope that the special issue convinces some more companies that it is worth putting in the effort with customers to create success stories.

elektroniknet.de: 8M impressions in 2008

January 19th, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Online Publications

Congratulations to elektroniknet.de, which achieved almost 8 million impressions in 2008, showing an annual traffic growth of 45%. The best thing about this is that Weka use IVW to audit the traffic, giving advertisers an additional confidence in the figures.

Computer and Automation breaks away from elektroniknet.de

December 5th, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Online Publications

Weka has decided to move the Computer & Automation content out of elektroniknet.de and onto a site of its own. I think this is a great move, as the content from C&A didn’t quite fit with the Weka electronics titles, and this allows both sites to increase their focus on their specific end-markets.

The new C&A site has a different structure to elektroniknet, and also has a slightly different look and feel. This is great, as the C&A readers now have a website designed specifically for their needs. Of course the traffic on elektroniknet may fall temporarily as the C&A traffic is no longer included, but I would expect the growth of the use of online sites to make up the shortfall very quickly.
