M&T editor wins VDE Prize

February 19th, 2010 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Awards

Corinne Schindlbeck, the Markt&Technik who covers management & careers, has been awarded the Media Prize Technology by the VDE Südbayern, Germany. It’s great to see electronics industry bodies award prizes to journalists, and as an engineer I am particularly pleased that the prize went to someone who is encouraging young people to choose engineering as a career. Congratulations Corinne!

Weka Sommernachtsfest 2009

August 5th, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Online Publications, Print Publications

With over 500 guests, the Weka Sommernachtsfest 2009 proved to be a fantastic event held at the historic MVG Museum. Proving that Germans really do have a great sense of humour, WEKA’s Managing Director Kurt Skupin told guests “We can’t afford it, and if you really want to know, we never could afford it”. Weka have a gallery of photos and also a video of the event on the Elektroniknet.de website.

Weka launches Energie&Technik

July 21st, 2009 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Print Publications

Weka’s Markt & Technik team is launching a new publication, Energie&Technik. Interestingly Weka has chosen to position the publication as “powered by Markt&Technik”, rather than branding the magazine as M&T special issues. The editorial focus will be on energy sources – such as solar heat, photovoltaics, wind power – and new battery technologies as well as fuel cells and energy harvesting.

AgLa readership survey finally released

September 22nd, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Media Research

After months of talking, the results of the AgLa survey are finally out. This is the study sponsored by E&E, Elektronik Informationen, Elektronik Industrie, Elektronik Praxis and Elektronik Journal to answer the Weka-sponsored La Elfa study.

So who were the winners and losers? Well not surprisingly the raw readership results are less flattering for the three Weka titles than La Elfa, although unsurprisingly even this study still shows M&T as the title with the highest reach. Elektronik Praxis does well, beating Elektronik to have the second-highest reach. Elektronik Industrie is another winner, “beating” D&E. In this study respondents are asked about the pan-European titles, which don’t score well, although EPN gets the highest readership (who says product books are dead!).

So what does this mean? Well like all studies this one isn’t the perfect solution to media planning – like all the others it provides useful information, but also can’t be the perfect answer. Even if the surveys were perfect, we still wouldn’t plan a media schedule by blindly chasing the highest reach (and there should be a special mention for Elektronik Informationen, which was the first title to contact me about the study, and to highlight the positive conclusions you can draw about the title from the study). Why not contact me for a more detailed comparison of the two surveys?

Markt & Technik to publish daily electronica newspaper

May 9th, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Unsurprisingly – given the quality of the publication in previous years – Markt & Technik will again publish the electronica show daily. With half the articles in English, the show daily caters for international visitors as well as German attendees. electronica is the biggest electronics component show in the world, so it’s important to make the most of your presence, and we’ve seen clients use the show daily very effectively. Contact Napier for more information on the show daily and other ways to fill your stand with customers!

Editorial changes at Weka

August 12th, 2007 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Heinz Arnold, a highly experience and respected journalist is taking over as editor of Markt und Technik. He replaces Peter Wintermayr, who will be moving to become cheif editor of Elektroniknet, Weka’s online electronics website. At Napier we don’t think this will have a huge effect on Markt und Technik, but it represents a dramatic commitment by Weka to their online presence. Elektroniknet is the largest German-language electronics site, and despite innovations from competitors has not been seriously challenged. We expect this move to signal a focus on further improving editorial content online, which can only be a good thing.
