Dispute between Bodo and PSDE rumbles on

June 30th, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

The Munich court of appeal has overturned earlier court rulings that restricted the branding of Bodo’s Power in the case between Bodo and AGS Media, publishers of PSDE. I don’t think this makes a huge difference to the two titles, as Bodo’s Power has re-branded pretty effectively (and clearly the word “Bodo” is more important to the magazine’s brand than “Systems”!). We understand that there are other issues to be resolved by the courts, and will report on them if they will have an impact on either title. From our point of view, however, the more successful titles in Europe, the better!

Local language articles from Bodo’s Power

March 17th, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Bodo’s Power is inviting authors to submit local language versions of contributed articles that are published in the magazine. On the face of it, this is a great idea, with all the local language versions appearing at the end of the online (PDF) version of the magazine. I wonder, however, how many people will think that this offers better value than placing the local language version of the article in a local language magazine. I’m always pleased to see pan-European publishers trying to support local languages: it is simply far more effective to communicate in an engineer’s first language. I suspect that in practice there may be limited take-up of this idea, but perhaps this doesn’t matter – any local language articles will make Bodo’s Power more relevant to the European audience, and will help communicate electronics companies’ messages more effectively.

PSDE win court decision against Bodo

January 15th, 2008 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

The fight between PSDE and Bodo Arlt, who left the magazine to start Bodo’s Power Systems is something we’ve not given much coverage to within Napier News. As there was no way for us to know exactly what happened, we didn’t want to comment. We also don’t carry opinions from either side. We’ll continue the “no comment” approach throughout 2008, but will highlight any important news.

The latest news in the battle is that a ruling was issued that is scheduled to come into force on 15th February. This ruling covers the use of the title “Bodo’s Power Systems” for a free-of-charge trade publication, and also that there were a number of other design elements that could no longer be used. We understand that Bodo will appeal against this ruling, and we’ll cover further key developments in the future.

Bodo launches email newsletter

January 16th, 2007 by Mike | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

The first email newsletter from Bodo Arlt, editor of Bodos Power Systems has been issued. Bodo promises to issue a monthly email around the middle of the month to keep the power community updated with the latest news. Power is one of the few vertial markets with specialist European magazines, and although a power newsletters are already published by the electronics media, it makes sense for the specialist titles to drive the email news for this sector.
